built 67-8 The Evansville Opera House opened September 9, 1868. The opera house was quite the social spot especially once the St George Hotel was built across Locust St. also housed ha cook grocer 1890 acquired by David J Mackey and remodel so the main floor and stage were first floor level
Sadly, Evansville's grand opera house was destroyed by fire in the early hours of February 23, 1891.

The old People's Theater which stood on the site of the present Tri-State Motor Co building. It was destroyed by fire about 11 years ago (c1914) and was never rebuilt (remodel or rebuild) later improved and known as the People's Theater

The New People's Theater (later called the Orpheum) was next built on this site. The new Old National Bank building now occupies the spot.
