In the wake of the flames

Its massive beams collapsed, roof gone, steeple fallen, pews charred and crushed--this is Holy Trinity Church today. This picture was taken from the altar which remains unscarred. It looks toward the choir loft and organ, above which the fire broke out. In center foreground is the heave chandelier which crashed to the church floor just after the fireman left the spot on orders of Chief Bassemier)
