Deaconess campus 1980

The older portion of the hospital (center left) occupied a city block bounded by Mary, Iowa, Delaware, and Harriet streets. Many of the residents of the blue-collar workers and their families, which once surrounded the older section, have been replaced with hospital additions, office buildings for medical specialists, and parking facilities. Older landmarks in the region have disappeard--Columbia School and Bethany Christian Church (on Columbia St to the north), and St Mary's Hospital (on First Ave to the left).
