This photograph of "Store No. 556" was taken by the national retail chain just before the business opened Nov. 5, 1948. The Evansville Courier reported that the "ultra-modern" building, constructed with Indiana limestone, would employ 150 workers. One of its most memorable features was the lunch counter, which could accommodate 68 patrons in an era when hot fudge sundaes cost only 20 cents. Urban sprawl finally forced the closing of Kresge's doors on Dec. 31, 1968. 1971 announced and renovated vacant until osco drug 1972 osco closed 1996 stratmans moved in 1998. moved from 413 locust http://www.stratmanspharmacy.com/ stratmans bought by cvs closed winter 2011-2
