South side of Pollack on the Corner of Vann Ave Southern Victorian (original) Originally a two story home with a partial basement The present site of Vann Park Apartments, the original edifice/home faces Pollack Ave. It was fronted and surrounded by several acres once used for farm crops, etc. It was the childhood home of Elizabeth (Helmich) Unfried & family.
In the 50s or 60s, it was purchased by a man who lived in the first stone bungalow home BEHIND the Helmich property facing Vann Ave. wings addded and porch redone in the southern style (old wood one removed)
After his death, the property was sold for converting the home into (4)apartment units. Its history is filled with repeated vandalism, fires, and some ghost myths, most which were true according to residential witnesses and the second owner prior to his death in the late 80s. ( There are other mysteries which surround this home that are only known by a few of my family members.) later expanded to full apartment complex
