69 First Baptist Church Baptist Corner Centre & Clark Street 1858 The First Baptist church was organized in 1847. In 1851, land was purchased at 2nd and Clark to erect a building. The church was built and completed in 1853.
As the congregation outgrew the building wanted more central location, they made plans to erect a new church at 3rd and Cherry. In 1864, the old building was sold to city. Services were held at Marble Hall and in the new basement until the new church was finished in 1867. 1863 served as the high school moved from Canal St School until the Old Central building was built 1868
Disciples of Christ, founded 1868, began using the old baptist church to hold its meetings in November 1885. The church subsequently moved into the old unitarian church in 1888. later school house later colored school house clark st school? [1880] stable of wm dean (first and mulberry)
