Little Market Square near Willard Library
The "Little Market" was probably inherited from the town of Lamasco. As the shelterless, open square shown in this drawing by Karl Kae Knecht, it occupied the entire block bounded by Indiana St., Pennsylvania St., First Ave. and Second Ave. In 1917 the covered loggias with stone tables and the splendid market house were built. In the 1920's and later, all stands were occupied and many merchants had stalls in the house. With the coming of the supermarkets and shopping centers, the usefulness of the market seems to be over and part of the house is now occupied by Fire Department No. 3.
