Casualty of time and taxes
Within the next few weeks there'll be nothing left of one of Evansville's early movie houses. This site is at 626-8 Main, owned by the Phillip Holzman heirs. The picture is from the remnants of the balcony, looking toward the wall where the screen once was mounted. That's the Central High spire in the background. Originally, the building was the Novelty, a nickelodeon; later the American and most recently the Gay Mark. It has been vacant the last few years and is now being torn down to escape taxes.
