History

Old Evansville Fairgrounds established 1892 beyond Washington and Kentucky Aves. Contained grand stands and mile track

Closed 1912. In 1914 William M Akin, president and founder of Akin Erskine Milling Co helped organize neighborhood. Platted into building lots around a 10 acre wooded area. The park was renamed Akin Park in his honor
